Introduction

One of our greatest community strengths is the establishment of Aboriginal community organisations who are chartered with the role of providing our communities with a base and voice for self-determination. These organisations work across a number of areas including health and wellbeing, sports and recreation, childcare and education.

For the purpose of this curriculum we are focussing on the health sector, our Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, and the strong foundation they provide for Aboriginal health, wellbeing, and self-determination.

This will then extend to you, your work with Aboriginal people, and how your organisation or service might work collaboratively with Aboriginal agencies and services to provide greater health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people. It may mean that you work in an Aboriginal Health Service, a mainstream service or you provide a service to an Aboriginal Health Service.
